Riusuke Fukahori Exhibition: Wavering Boundaries

Aomori Museum of Art
Until Jan 18

Artists

Riusuke Fukahori
Fascinated by goldfish and unwavering in his commitment to creative endeavors, artist Riusuke Fukahori has been crafting three-dimensional goldfish using an innovative technique known as 2.5D painting, in which acrylic paint is layered on transparent resin. His works offer an experience of realism, as if beautiful, lifelike goldfish are swimming right before your eyes.

Is it the virtual or the real, or illusion or reality, that lies within the ripples of the water’s surface? While Fukahori presents his works as if they are alive, he simultaneously confronts the fact that they are merely layers of lifeless paint. Lying within his creations is a fundamental proposition in realism: the coexistence of illusion and material substance.

This exhibition showcases approximately 300 works, including his early three-dimensional pieces, paintings, videos, and large-scale installations, including new creations. In addition, it shines a renewed light on his artistry in portraying goldfish, exploring his thoughts on the act of painting and the essence of reality.

Enjoy the lively world of goldfish, which invites us to drift between the virtual and the real.
